Die Suid-Afrikaanse boer se voortbestaan word uit talle oorde bedreig – die stygende koste van arbeid, diesel en elektrisiteit vreet baie boere se wins op. Naas veeslagtings deur roofdiere, is veediefstal boonop besig om die veebedryf in Suid-Afrika stadig maar seker lam te lê. Veediefstal in Suid-Afrika is ‘n enorme probleem en dit bedreig die volhoubaarheid van veeboerdery in die meeste provinsies ernstig. Hierdie misdaad, wat beide kommersiële en opkomende boere raak, het 'n lonende besigheid geword. Oor die afgelope vyf jaar was daar gemiddeld 30 000 veediefstalsake per jaar met ’n gekombineerde waarde van R750 miljoen per jaar. Met soveel geld uit ons beursie, is dit verstaanbaar dat ons produsente ’n gevoel van magteloosheid ervaar en soms wonder of ons moet voortgaan om met vee te boer. Laai hier af ...

Emergency slaughter

  • THE IMPORTANCE OF ANTE MORTEM INSPECTION) Ante mortem inspection is used as tool to screen all animals destined for slaughter. The inspector should ensure that animals are properly rested (minimum 1 hour) and that proper clinical information, which will assist in disease diagnosis and judgement, is obtained. Healthy, clean animals will reduce contamination on the slaughter floor. Therefor diseased and dirty animals are separated from healthy clean ones and placed in an isolation lairage to be slaughtered last.  Read more ...
